Vanathi Srinivasan Accuses Ruling Party's Support for Illicit Liquor Sale

Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan released a statement on June 19, claiming ruling party's support causes illicit liquor sales, urging severe action against perpetrators.

Coimbatore: In a significant statement released on June 19, Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan accused the ruling party of facilitating the illegal sale of illicit liquor, which has resulted in multiple deaths. "The unwavering support from the ruling party is the primary reason behind the illicit liquor sales," she stated, highlighting the tragic consequences of such activities. She demanded stringent action under the Goondas Act against those responsible for manufacturing and selling illicit liquor in Kalugurichi district, particularly in the Karunapuram area, where the consumption of illicit liquor has reportedly led to 12 deaths, shocking the community.

The rampant sale of liquor, both government-licensed TASMAC outlets and illicit sources, especially following the incident in Kalugurichi that threw light on the extensive illegal operations, has come under severe criticism. Last year, over 30 people died in Villupuram district due to illegal liquor, and this year similar incidents have occurred in Kalugurichi. In the Kalvarayan hills area of the district, illicit liquor being distilled and sold is an open secret, yet the administration under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the Tamil Nadu police controlled by him seems oblivious, raising concerns and questioning the effectiveness of the state's governance.

Vanathi Srinivasan urged Chief Minister Stalin to take responsibility and enforce strict action on both the racketeers and the ruling party members allegedly supporting them. Following multiple deaths, the district authorities and police officials were accused of misleading the public, which has now led to transfers and suspensions aimed at combating the cover-up. "These actions must not just be a show but result in serious repercussions for those responsible for the deaths in Kalugurichi," Vanathi concluded, pushing for a comprehensive crackdown to eradicate the menace of illicit liquor throughout Tamil Nadu.
