Jewelry Shop Owner and Relative Rescued After Kidnapping in Coimbatore; Rs. 42 Lakh Ransom Demanded

In Coimbatore, a jewelry shop owner and his nephew were kidnapped and held for a Rs. 42 lakh ransom. The victims were reported missing on June 17 and were rescued on June 19 after police intervention.

Coimbatore: Senthilkumar, a 40-year-old resident of RS Puram, Ponnaiyarajapuram, who runs a gold jewelry workshop, and his nephew Vishnuvasan, 22, who works at the same workshop, were recently victims of a kidnapping ordeal. On the evening of June 17, the duo along with their pet dog drove towards AKS Nagar and mysteriously disappeared.

Within hours, the family was sent into a frenzy as the relatives failed to locate them. On the following day, Senthil's sister Sudha received a WhatsApp call demanding a ransom of Rs. 42 lakh, alleging that Senthil and Vishnuvasan were kidnapped due to the delivery of defective jewelry, which they were forced to make under duress.

Unable to meet the ransom demand, Sudha approached the RS Puram Police Station to file a missing person report. Police investigations revealed that the kidnapping was orchestrated by Sivagangai residents, Thanabal and Thanasekar, with the assistance of a local individual named Satheesh.

Following leads, the Coimbatore City Deputy Commissioner Saravanakumar supervised a special team operation to Sivagangai on June 19. The kidnappers, aware of the police action, abandoned Senthilkumar and Vishnuvasan at the hideout, subsequently fleeing the scene. The police have safely rescued the victims and are currently on a manhunt for the three kidnappers.
