Protest against closure of Tasmacs is erupting at various parts in the city. The Tasmac protest incident at Samalapuram, Tiruppur District stirred the entire state as police lathi-charged the public and the journalists during the protest. The video of AGDP Pandiarajan slapping a protesting women brutally had gone viral in the social media which also received wide condemnation.
Today, here in the city, Tasmac No: 1653 at Sowripalayam was boycotted by the public alleging nuisance to the residents. Close to hundred residents of that area, mostly women demonstrated a sit-in-protest in front of the Tasmac demanding the officials to shift this Tasmac to a different location as it has been causing severe public disturbance.
The women alleged that the tipplers often end up in a scuffle with the public, especially women and that such scenes create a bad example for the school/college going students.
The police who tried to pacified the protestors at last arrested 31 protestors as they failed to withdraw their agitation. The Tasmac shop that opens by 12 pm everyday , remains closed and additional police have been deployed in Sowripalayam.
