Fuel stations may go dry on Sundays

Fuel bunks across the city could go dry on Sundays from early May as many bunks are likely to respond to a strike called by the Consortium of Indian Petroleum Dealers (CIPD) from May 10.

The main demand of the CIPD is a single-window system to avoid the mushrooming of fuel bunks in close proximity, which dealers blame on arbitrary allotment of outlets. “The current system does not consider feasibility while allotting outlets. As a result, we have bunks coming up even next to each other, which is a lose-lose situation for both owners. We want allotment to be decided in a scientific manner,” a CIPD member said.

To express their protest, dealers will not purchase fuel from oil marketing companies on Sundays.
