Tamil Nadu Government to Establish 'Thozhi Hostels' in Coimbatore

The Tamil Nadu government is selecting sites in Coimbatore for the establishment of 'Thozhi Hostels' aimed at accommodating working women from different districts.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu government is taking significant strides to improve the living conditions for working women with the establishment of 'Thozhi Hostels.' These hostels are designed to provide safe and affordable accommodations for women who travel from various districts to urban areas for work.

Previous efforts saw the inauguration of women's hostels in Chengalpattu and Tiruchirappalli with a budget of INR 13 crores. Additionally, with an allocation of INR 3.42 crore, seven new hostels have been refurbished and made functional in Chennai, Adyar, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Salem, Vellore, Tirunelveli, and Perambalur. These hostels are equipped with facilities comparable to private lodgings, including CCTV surveillance and biometric access, ensuring enhanced security.

For those interested in residing at these hostels, bookings can be made through the website https://www.tnwwhcl.in/ with fees ranging from INR 4000 to INR 6500. Looking ahead, the Tamil Nadu Government has allocated INR 26 crores under the 'Thozhi Hostels' initiative to set up new hostels in Coimbatore, Chennai, and Madurai as part of the 2024-25 financial year budget announcement.

As of June 18, the site selection process has been ongoing, with lands under the Coimbatore Government Medical College and Government Industrial Training Institute being earmarked for this project.
