Equipment Distributed for Solid Waste Management to Sanitation Workers in Coimbatore

On June 18, 2024, in Coimbatore, RS Puram under Central Zone's Ward 70, Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar and Coimbatore Municipal Commissioner M.Sivaguru Prabakaran distributed tools worth Rs. 63.44 lakh to sanitation workers for managing solid waste.


Coimbatore: Initiating a significant step toward enhanced urban cleanliness, Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation conducted a special distribution ceremony of sanitary equipment on June 18, 2024. This event took place at the Health Inspector's office premises in RS Puram, specifically in Ward Number 70 of the Central Zone. The purpose of this distribution was to equip the sanitation workforce for effective solid waste management across the five zones of the city - East, West, North, South, and Central.


Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar, accompanied by Municipal Commissioner M.Sivaguru Prabakaran, handed over various tools to the sanitation workers. These tools, including 3195 hand sieves, 2050 scoop sieves, 985 spades, 740 small picks, 560 large picks, 754 shovels, 1210 large bamboo baskets, 1180 small bamboo baskets, 760 manhole covers, 1952 plastic tubs, 1000 road brooms, 400 brushes, 605 sickles, and 335 stone breakers, collectively valued at approximately Rs. 63.44 lakh, will aid in the cleanup efforts significantly.




The ceremony was attended by numerous officials, including Deputy Commissioner Ka.Sivakumar, South Zone Chairman R.Thanalakshmi, Head of the Public Health Committee Pe.Marichselvan, Council Members S.Sharmila, Revathi Murali, Public Health Officer Dr.K.Boopathy, Assistant Commissioner Senthilkumaran, along with health inspectors, and supervisory staff from the municipal corporation. The distribution aimed not just to provide tools but also to motivate and enhance the capabilities of the 2220 permanent sanitation workers diligently working to keep Coimbtore clean.




The ongoing efforts by the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation underline its commitment to improving solid waste management, making the city cleaner and more hygienic for all its residents. With the right tools in hand, the municipal workers are now better equipped to manage the city’s waste efficiently, symbolizing a significant step towards sustainable urban living.
