The Mahalir Fast Track court here convicted and sentenced a tippler to 10 year imprisonment for murdering his 62-year-old mother by attacking her with a piece of wood in 2015 as she refused to get him water to drink.
The 34-year-old Nagarajan, resident of Nathankoil street in Kumbakonam, was a habitual drunkard and did not go to work.
His mother Mallika (62) was lying on the pyol on November 23, 2015 when Nagarajan came there drunk and asked her to get him water to drink. Mallika then reportedly told him to get into the house and drink water by himself. Nagarajan who was drunk became enraged, picked up a piece of wood and attacked her indiscriminately with it. Mallika who sustained bleeding head injury died on the spot. Patteeswaram police registered a case and arrested Nagarajan.
Trial of the case was conducted at the Mahalir Fast Track Court in Thanjavur. The judge who heard the case found Nagarajan guilty of the charges. The judge, delivering his verdict in the case on Tuesday, ordered Nagarajan to undergo 10 year imprisonment for murdering his mother.
