Police lathi-charged the protestors and Journalists at Samalapuram, women brutally attacked.

Commotion broke out on the Mangalam-Samalapuram road as the police lathi-charged the people who were protesting against removal of a Tasmac from their area. Journalists were also attacked by the police during lathi-charge.

'Despite several petitions and pleas to all concerned officials, no action was initiated to remove the Tasmac from our area. Hence, we have planned to stage an unprecedented protest, until our pleas our heard', said the infuriated residents of Samalapuram.

The residents who were hundreds in number staged a protest on the Mangalam-Samalapuram road condemning the officials for not responding to their fair plea and also demanding to remove the tasmac from that existing place with immediate effect.

Coincidentally, the protesting people spotted the SUV of Kanagaraj, MLA of Sulur Constituency. Immediately the protestors boycotted his vehicle and demanded him to address the issue. Adding to the twist, the MLA also joined the public and took part in the protest. The news spread like fire as the MLA also joined the public protest.

The police advised the people to clear the protests and assured them to initiate talks with the concerned officials. But the protestors paid no heed to their assurance. Post noon, the MLA left the protest site. Soon after that, the police issued multiple warnings to the public to call off their protest but the determined protestors continued their agitation.

Unexpectedly, the police lathi-charged the protestors which created sudden commotion in the entire area. The protestors responded back by pelting stones on police jeeps and vans. It is reported that along with the protestors, the Police also lathi-charged the Photo/Video Journalists from Coimbatore who had gone there to collect news.

Tense situation prevailed as a protestor sustained severe head injuries during the lathi charge and also the attack on Journalists further aggravated the issue. The injured were taken to the Government Hospital for treatment. Additional police have been deployed at the protest site as a precaution.

This lathi-charge incident has shook the public and also the the video of Tiruppur, ADGP, Pandiarajan of Tiruppur slapping a women brutally had gone viral in the social medias. Public have raised their condemnation against this brutal lathi-charge by the police and sought action against the concerned officials.
