Coimbatore District Combined Water Supply Scheme to The Project area covers 7 Town Panchayats namely Thondamuthur, Vedapatty, Dhaliyur, Perur, Thenkarai, Pooluvapatti and Alandurai and 134 rural habitations in 10 Village Panchayats namely Devarayapuram, Zakirnaikenpalayam, Vellimalai pattinam, Narasipuram, Thennamanallur, Ikkaraiboluvampatty, Maduvarayapuram, Madampatti, Theethipalayam and Perurchettipalayam of Thondamuthur Union will be functional from June 2017 on wards, said District Collector TN Hariharan.

District Collector TN Hariharan along with officials from PWD and rural welfare department inspected the water withdrawal site in Bhavani river. He also supervised the on going works in connection with laying pipelines, construction of over head tank stations etc.,

'The scheme envisages drawal of surface water of 11.95 mld for intermediate year and 13.81 mld for ultimate year requirements through an Intake well proposed in River Bhavani near Central water Commission Gauging station near Bhadrakaliammankoil.

With a projected budget of Rs. 130.46 crore, this project will considerably address the emerging water crisis of the above-mentioned areas. Giant pipelines for 221.1 kms and subsidiary pipelines for 149.4 kms and 39 ground level storage tanks, pump rooms, treatment plants, clear water reservoir, booster stations have been set.
The water from Bhavani river near Badrakaliamman Temple will travel a distance of 12.19 km to reach the treatment plant at Kurundhamalai. From thereon, the water will be reach the clear water reservoir at Veerapandi through DI pipelines which will further be distributed to Thondamuthur and adjoining areas through giant pipelines.
The total distance from the Head works upto commencing point of the Project area is 51.65 KM. The work that commenced on 20th August, 2015 and now nearing it's completion, hence by the end of June 2017 the project will come to real-time operation' District Collector said.
