Fire broke out this evening at a plastic scarp godown in Kuruchi area, near Pongali Amman temple street. This evening, unexpectedly fire broke out in the godown which engulfed the entire area with thick smoke.
As tonnes of plastics melted in heat, the nauseous smell billowing from the site caused suffocation to the residents and the passers-by.
Fire personnel were called upon, who doused the fire after a tough fight. It is reported that several lakh worth of goods were gutted in this fire accident.
The go-down handles plastic wastes of all forms and also some fiber mesh that is used for making brooms.
The Podanur Police have registered a case and are presently investigating the incident. However, the exact reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained.
