Engineer Convicted for Bribery in Coimbatore, Sentenced to One Year in Jail

In Coimbatore, an engineer named D.M. Ravindran was sentenced to one year in jail for accepting a bribe of ₹30,000 in 2012 to remove an obstructing electricity pole near Devaraj's house in Saravanampatti.


Coimbatore: Engineer D.M. Ravindran, 60, formerly employed with the Saravanampatti Electricity Board, has been sentenced to one year imprisonment in a bribery case. The case dates back to 2012, when Ravindran allegedly demanded ₹30,000 from a local resident, Devaraj, to remove an electricity pole that was posing a hazard near his home.

The incident came to light when the Coimbatore Anti-Corruption Police, who were undercover at the time, apprehended Ravindran while he was accepting the bribe. Following a detailed investigation, the case was taken up by the Coimbatore Corruption Prevention Special Court.

On 28th May 2024, the verdict was delivered by Judge S. Mohana Ramya, who sentenced Ravindran to one year in prison and also imposed a fine of ₹5,000. The case was prosecuted by Government Advocate D.S. Sivakumar. Coimbatore Police Superintendent K. Sundarraaj, Inspector Unnikrishnan, and Inspector Parimala Devi were instrumental in the investigation and proceedings of this high-profile corruption case.
