Man Arrested for Snatching 5 Sovereigns of Gold in Annur, Coimbatore

In Annur, Coimbatore, a man was arrested after snatching 5 sovereigns of gold from a woman at her grocery store on May 23, 2024. The swift police action followed a report filed by the victim.


Coimbatore: A significant arrest has been made in Annur, Coimbatore, following a daring daylight robbery. On May 23, 2024, 49-year-old Danalakshmi was standing at her grocery store when an unidentified man, arriving on a two-wheeler, managed to snatch 5 sovereigns of gold chain from her neck before fleeing the scene.

The victim promptly reported the incident to the Annur Police Station, which registered a case and initiated an investigation. Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, Badri Narayanan, ordered a rapid response, leading to the formation of special teams to apprehend the suspect.

The investigation led to the arrest of Philip Mathew, a 23-year-old resident of Coimbatore, identified as the son of Xavier Amalraj. Mathew was found to have been involved in the robbery.

On May 28, the special teams successfully apprehended him, recovering the stolen 5 sovereigns of gold. Philip Mathew has been remanded to judicial custody following his arrest.
