PSG Institute of Pulomonary Medicine organized a two-day Annual International Conference of Indian Sleep Disorders Association "Sleepcon 2017' at PSG Institute of Medical Science and Research.

Ahead of the Conference, Dr.N.Ramakrishnan, Chairperson and Dr.RM.PL.Ramanathan, Organizing Secretary of the Conference addressed the media about the insights of the Conference.
"The Indian Sleep Disorders Association was formed to create awareness about various sleep disorders and the associated health ailments that affects us due to irregular sleep patterns.
After having created an impact at , the Indian Sleep Disorder Association is hosting it's conference for the very first time in Coimbatore and PSG Institute of Pulmonary Medicine has been chosen as the host.
Nearly 250 delegates including faculties, specialists, Post Graduate and Graduate students, Research Scholars from National and International level will take part in this confeence. as well as international level.
'The Speakers' will elaborate on various sleep disorders and sleep medicine is a multidisciplinary specialty practiced by Pulmonologists, Psychatrists, Neurologists, ENT and Dental Specialists." said Dr.RM.PL.Ramanathan organizing secretary of the conference.
Speaking more on the insights of the conference, Dr. R.N.Ramakrishnan said "Sleep Disorder problems are prevailing from the past but the awareness about the Disorder, it's causes and treatment is very less.
Like blood pressure, diabetes and other diseases, sleep disorder also is an issue that needs to be addressed. Sleep apnea, Insomnia, Snoring are some of the major sleep disorders.
Research says that 10 out of 100 people suffer from sleep disorders. If anyone experience difficulty in sleeping for more than two weeks along with fatigue/tiredness, then probably they should consult a physician.
Insomnia and Sleep Apnea are not one and the same. Insomnia is difficulty in sleeping whereas Sleep Apnea is a state where one feels unfresh after a long sleep. But both disorders over a long run will lead to many other health ailments.
When compared to male and female, in most cases Men face Sleep Apnea and Women have Insomnia. Sleep disorders are mainly caused by lifestyle changes. It is a misconception that all sleep disorders should be treated with sleeping pills. Altering the sleep pattern, lifestyle modifications, coping up strategy and therapies can prove useful."
As a part of the conference a short film competition with the title "Sleep Recharges You" for college students was organised.

First prize was bagged by Pranav from PSG Institute of Technology, Second by Pratiksha from PSG College of Arts and Science and third prize was won by Swathi from PSG Institute of Management.

The awards were announced by Mr. K.S.A. Ajith Kumar Director, AC Films, Chennai. the awards were handed over by Prof. Dr. P.R. Rajkumar
Medical Director, PSG Hospitals,Dr. Palani G. Periasamy Chairman PGP Group of companies & Le Meridien Hotels Chennai & Coimbatore, Prof. Dr. J.C. Suri, ISDA Chairperson, Founder & President were some of the dignitaries who were present for the conference.
