Prominent Conservationist Dr. R. S. Lal Mohan Passes Away in Coimbatore

Dr. R. S. Lal Mohan, renowned conservationist and former ICAR scientist, passed away at a Coimbatore hospital on May 13, 2024, at 3:00 am. His significant contributions to conservation and education are remembered.


Coimbatore: In a somber announcement, the family of Dr. R. S. Lal Mohan confirmed his passing at a local hospital in Coimbatore on May 13, 2024, at 3:00 am. Dr. Mohan, a well-respected former principal scientist at ICAR, New Delhi, and an eminent conservationist, left a substantial legacy in the fields of environmental conservation and education.

Dr. Mohan was deeply involved in various conservation efforts across Tamil Nadu. He served as the convener of INTACH Nagercoil, chairman of the Conservation of Nature Trust, and remained an active trustee at the AJK Educational Institution in Coimbatore. His contributions spanned academia and community service, touching lives through his roles in education and nature conservation.

Born on April 17, 1937, Dr. Mohan's journey was marked by scholarly excellence and a dedication to the environment. He completed his education at prestigious institutions, including a doctorate from Madurai University and further studies in Marine Biology in North Carolina, USA. Dr. Mohan went on to author over 150 books and numerous articles, earning accolades globally, including recognition as an IUCN member at the United Nations.

The funeral services for Dr. Mohan will take place at the CSI Home Church cemetery in Nagercoil on May 15, 2024, at approximately 11 am. Dr. Mohan is survived by his sons Dr. Ashok Lal Mohan and Dr. Ajeet Kumar Lal Mohan, who continue his legacy in educational and conservation efforts throughout Tamil Nadu.
