Coimbatore: Nestled within the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve near Udumalai, the tribal village of Kodanthur endures a severe lack of basic infrastructure. Home to over 300 tribal families, the village struggles as the houses built 50 years ago are now collapsing and showing severe cracks. During seasons of rain and heat, the villagers suffer considerable distress due to rapid deterioration of their living conditions. Currently, the area is experiencing extreme drought, forcing the villagers to travel several kilometers for water. Additionally, in emergencies, they have to travel about 20 kilometers to the nearest hospital in Udumalai. Despite repeated petitions to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, district administrators, and ministers over the years, the residents report that no action has been taken. The villagers have therefore renewed their appeal for the Tamil Nadu government to provide basic amenities in Kodanthur.
