Tiles Collapse at Coimbatore Collector's Office, Two Injured

At the Coimbatore Collector's office, two individuals were injured when ceiling tiles suddenly collapsed post a meeting regarding land acquisition issues on May 10.

Coimbatore: In a startling incident at the Coimbatore District Collector's office, two individuals suffered injuries when tiles from the ceiling collapsed suddenly. The building, which houses several department offices including the Land Acquisition for Airport Expansion department, is quite old and was the site of a crucial meeting related to land acquisition in the Singanallur area earlier that day. Landowners Senthil Kumar and Deepan Ramesh attended this meeting.

Following the meeting, as Kumar and Ramesh were washing their hands, the tiles gave way, with multiple pieces falling on them — one was hit on the head and the other on the arm. While they sustained injuries, the noise of the collapse drew other government officials to the scene, who checked the site and then retreated back to their offices.

The injured parties, shocked by the incident and the lack of immediate response from the authorities, expressed their grievances to the media. They highlighted that they were present for the meeting when the accident occurred and noted the lack of action from officials despite the fact that the tiling work, carried out by contractors from another state, had only been completed a few months earlier.
