A road accident claimed the life of a municipal worker, Chandrasekaran, aged 57, in Udumalai, Tirupur district, when his motorcycle collided with another on the flyover bridge.

Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, a municipal worker, Chandrasekaran, lost his life in a road accident in Udumalai, Tirupur district. Chandrasekaran, who was employed as an electrical lineman with the local municipality, was returning to the office via the Udumalai flyover bridge when his motorcycle collided with an oncoming motorcycle while descending the bridge. He was thrown off his bike and died on the spot. Udumalai police retrieved his body and sent it to Udumalai Government Hospital for autopsy. The other motorcyclist involved has been admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital with severe injuries. The local police are investigating the accident. Social workers have highlighted that the flyover bridge, which connects to the Gandhi square for easier traffic movement, is often congested and poses a risk for both ascending and descending vehicles, leading to frequent accidents. They urged that dividers be installed on both sides of the flyover to ensure safer commutes and prevent further casualties.
