Green Shelters Installed at Singanallur Signal Brings Relief to Locals in Coimbatore

In the blazing summer heat, green shelters have been installed at traffic signals in Coimbatore, including Singanallur Signal, providing much-needed relief to the public and motorists.

Coimbatore: As the summer heatwave continues to scorch Coimbatore, the municipal corporation has initiated the installation of green shelters at various traffic signals, including the one at Singanallur. With temperatures soaring above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, these shelters offer a respite for both pedestrians and vehicle drivers.

These green shelters are part of a broader initiative by the local government to combat the effects of intense heat across Tamil Nadu. The state has been experiencing higher than usual temperatures, causing discomfort to its residents. In response, several districts now feature water and buttermilk stalls alongside these green shelters to alleviate heat stress.

In Coimbatore, which has particularly felt the brunt of the heat in recent years, the effort to cool down hotspots has been escalated. Starting from Kannapan Nagar on Mettupalayam Road, the Singanallur Signal has been equipped with the first of these structures. The Municipal Corporation plans to extend this initiative to ten other locations, including near the Singanallur Police Station and Vasanth & Co, which saw its new shelter become operational on May 4.

The creation of these shelters is just one of many measures suggested by healthcare officials to protect the public from the relentless sun. For motorists, getting stuck at signals during peak heat was particularly taxing. Now, with the installation of these green shelters, their journeys might be a little less daunting. The locals have expressed their happiness with these new installations, appreciating the much-needed shade during their daily commutes.
