In continuation of its efforts in reducing the challenge of ticketless travelling, and in order to inculcating the habit of buying tickets among the rail passengers, the Commercial Branch Officials under the supervision of Sri K. Madhu, Divisional Commercial Manager, Salem, undertook intensive ticket checking in all the railway stations of Salem Division, including Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Podanur and Karur. In this Mass Ticket Checking Drive, held on 02.04.2017, involving 231 Commercial Branch staff, a total amount of Rs.3,37,595/- was collected as ticket fare and penalties.
This we are told is highest ever amount collected by way of ticket checking, since the inception of Salem Division, in the year 2007, the previous highest collection being Rs. 2,47,025/- on 05.03. 2017. Totally, 766 cases were booked on the stated day, of which 755 cases were under improper ticketing/ticketless (realized amount being Rs.3,33,870/-), and 11 cases were registered under unbooked luggage and other cases (realized amount being Rs.3,725/-). The highest collection by a single Ticket Checking Staff was by Sri M. Mano Selvam, of Salem Ticket Checking Squad, who collected a sum of Rs.35,780/- as fine.
Hari Shankar Verma, DRM, Salem, appreciated the regular steps being taken by Vijuvin, Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager, and his team of officers and staff, in bringing down the instances of ticketless travelling, and advised them to continue the intensive ticket checking drives on a regular basis.
