An artist by passion and an employee at a jewellery store by profession, Unnal Mudiyum Thambi (UMT) Raja better known as UMT Raja never misses an occasion to work on a creative piece of art. Every social issue finds a depiction in art in some form or the other. Till date, UMT Raja has created several innovative sculptures to bring out issues like applauding the former Chief Minister (CM) J Jayalalitha’s various public welfare schemes, he has also carved the portrait of the AIADMK founder and former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran and while the former CM J Jayalalitha was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai, UMT Raja took to art to express his wishes to her for a speedy recovery.
This time, one of the issues that has gained nation-wide attention is the sad plight of the farmers. Social activists, NGOs, students, and the ordinary citizens have raised their voice in support of the farmers. In order to express his solidarity towards the farmers of our state, artist UMT Raja has carved the outline of a couple of farmers on a piece of gold that weighs 8-grams. In this piece of art the courtesy UMT Raja, the farmers are depicted seating with their hands on their head.

“This is the pictorial representation of the condition of our farmers in our state. I completed this piece of art in just one day and the gold was sponsored by my boss, Lijo S, Managaing Director of a private jewellery store.” UMT Raja says.
