Young Man Drowns in Bhavani River, Police Investigates

A 23-year-old man, Sanjay, drowned while swimming in the Bhavani River near Mettupalayam with friends. Police recovered the body and commenced an investigation.


Coimbatore: In a tragic incident in Mettupalayam, a young man lost his life after drowning in the Bhavani River. The deceased, identified as Sanjay, 23, a resident of Gandhipuram 3rd Street, Mettupalayam, was employed as a painter. On April 27, Sanjay along with his friends Vijay, 21, Shiva, 22, and Akshay, 23, went swimming in the river near Uppupalayam Pampar Maduvu KMK garden.




During the swim, Sanjay reportedly ventured into a deeper part of the river and drowned. His friends attempted to rescue him, diving into the water and also seeking help from nearby residents. Despite a collective effort of approximately half an hour, Sanjay was retrieved from the river deceased.




Following the incident, Mettupalayam police were promptly informed and recovered the body, which was then sent to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for post-mortem. The police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations into the circumstances of the drowning.
