Coimbatore: In a distressing incident near Thuraiyur, Pollachi, a water pipeline was severely damaged yesterday evening during ongoing road expansion works, resulting in a significant water wastage. Several liters of water intended for local use were lost, exacerbating the existing water scarcity faced by the communities in the heat of summer. The damaged pipeline was part of the Kambalapatti Joint Water Supply Scheme, which serves the villages of Samathur, Kottur Panchayats, S Nallur, Jallipatti, Karianchettypalayam, and Kambalapatti. The loss has caused considerable inconvenience to these areas, already struggling with limited water supply. Residents expressed their distress, emphasizing the urgent need for repairs to restore the water service.
