Public Detains Truck Disposing Poultry and Medical Waste Illegally Near Dharapuram

Residents near Dharapuram, Tirupur, detained a truck from Kerala illegally dumping poultry and medical waste in Nachipalayam, affecting local groundwater.

Coimbatore: In a striking incident near Dharapuram, Tirupur District, locals apprehended a truck illegally dumping poultry and medical waste in the Nachipalayam division under Moolanur Panchayat Union.

Originating from Malappuram in Kerala, the truck was caught while disposing of untreated waste, causing significant concern among the residents. Local residents expressed fears that such disposal could contaminate the groundwater, posing severe health risks.

The truck, which was supposed to transport banana stems to Kerala, instead brought back loads of untreated waste, including medical debris and discarded meat waste, to different parts of Tamil Nadu. This alarming practice came to light when vigilant locals spotted the vehicle dumping waste and intervened.

The incident prompted the involvement of Moolanur Panchayat Union officials, who took action to seize the vehicle. Panchayat Leader Thandapani and the executive officer were informed about the incident, leading to the confiscation of the truck, thus preventing further illegal dumping. The authorities are investigating the issue to implement stricter regulations to prevent such occurrences in the future.
