Transgender Activist, Speaker, an ardent Art lover and creator, Kalki Subramaniam was here in the city to showcase her unique Pop Arts at the Pop Art Workshop conducted in association with ArtHouz, Jenny's Residency.
Pop Art is an art movement that emerged in the mid-50's in Britain, later in United States, Pop art form presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular culture such as advertising and news.

Kalki shares the insights of this interesting art form and also on her creations that are on display at this show. "Back in 1950's, Pop Art form was practiced and adored only by the elite. Though, it took a while to change, within a short span of time this art form was liked and practiced by many.
Though, Pop Art looks ordinary, it strongly connects and conveys the intended message to the people. Those days, this form of Art was used to instill social messages in people's mind. Unlike other art forms, the distinguishing feature of Pop Art form is predominantly the colorful representation and not to forget it's a powerful tool to influence people'
Kalki also apprised that awareness on this art form is lacking in our country. And, that this Pop Art form is new to the city and it's the very first time such an event is hosted here.
'People have to explore this art form as it is both Conventional and modern, like the city of Coimbatore' gleams Kalki.
'Street artists, movie poster artist, mural art all in some form or the other are a part of Pop Art form. In today's workshop we had around eight kids who stunned us by some mind-blowing creations. Am planning to conduct more sessions on Pop Art to create awareness and produce new artists' Kalki said.
Kalki is also the Founder of Sahodari Foundation, a NGO which works towards upliftment of Transgender Community. The foundation focuses on conducting periodic training sessions on all forms of art along with visits to tribal villages to spread awareness on transgenders and Art.
