Kamal Haasan Criticizes Central Government's Policies for Affecting Tiruppur's Textile Industry

Kamal Haasan during a campaign in Tiruppur criticized the Central government's implementation of GST and demonetization, blaming them for the decline in the textile industry.

Coimbatore: Makkal Needhi Maiam leader Kamal Haasan accused the Central Government of hindering the growth of Tiruppur's textile industry through its policies including the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and demonetization. Speaking at a campaign rally in support of the DMK coalition candidate Subbarayan in Tiruppur, Haasan argued that these policies had a severe impact on local businesses.

He highlighted that despite the city's potential to meet both local and global apparel needs, the industry faced significant setbacks due to increased operational costs and severe regulatory measures over the past decade. Haasan also pointed out that other countries like Bangladesh have surged ahead due to more favorable textile policies.

Addressing the crowd in Pandiyan Nagar, Haasan expressed his commitment to the national cause rather than personal gains, stressing the need to believe in leaders who act on their promises rather than those who merely make claims.

The event was witnessed by Tamil Development and Information Minister M.P. Saminathan, Selvaraj MLA, Mayor Dineshkumar, and several administrators from the coalition parties.
