Gaur rescued from well

A gaur that fell into a well in a private farm at Palada in Ketti near Udhagamandalam on Friday was rescued by the Forest Department personnel with the help of local residents.

A rescue team headed by District Forest Officer C. Badrasamy along with Kundah Range Officer Ramachandran dug a ramp leading into the well using an earthmover, to enable the gaur to walk out on its own.

The entire rescue operation took two hours. It is suspected that the animal has problems in eye sight.

With the onset of summer, wild animals have started straying out of the reserve forests in search of water. Mr. Badrasamy said that steps would be taken to fill water in natural and artificially created troughs inside the forests to prevent straying of wildlife.
