Siddharth Kalingarayar Criticizes BJP for Allocating Seat to Convicted Murderer John Pandian

Siddharth Kalingarayar strongly condemned BJP for giving an electoral seat to a convicted murderer in the Tenkasi constituency, questioning the ethical stance of Annamalai, the party's leader.

Coimbatore: In a striking critique, Siddharth Kalingarayar, have vocally condemned the BJP's decision to allocate an electoral seat in the Tenkasi constituency to John Pandian, a candidate with a convicted history of murder.

The controversy surrounds the decision to support the candidacy of John Pandian, who served years in prison for the murder of businessman Pollachi Vivek Kalingarayar, a descendant of the Oothukuli Zamindar family, in a high-profile case that dates back to 1993.

The brutal murder, carried out by hired assailants using sickles in broad daylight on August 17, 1993, on R.S. Puram’s D.B. Road, shocked the community. The subsequent investigation led by then Inspector Rathinasabapathy resulted in the arrest of 11 individuals, including Venkatarama Krishnan, a staff of Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology and VLB Engineering College, and hired contract killer John Pandian.

A fast-track court in Coimbatore convicted 10 of the accused, sentencing them to life imprisonment on January 6, 2003, while the driver, Subramaniam, was acquitted.

This statement underscores a deep concern over the ethical implications of allowing individuals with criminal convictions to participate in the electoral process, especially under the banner of a major political party like the BJP. Siddharth Kalingarayar was particularly perturbed that “such an insensitive move would be done by a big party like BJP led by a dynamic leader like Modi.”

This move has sparked a broader debate on the moral responsibilities of political parties and the standards they uphold when selecting candidates for public office.
