'The Intensive Pulse Polio programme covering children aged less than five will begin on 2nd April, 2017. An initiative of the Tamil Nadu Health department and Rotary International, around 1581 polio drops centre will be established in the District of Coimbatore which will benefit 3.33 lakh children below the age group of 5 years ' said Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan, Corporation Commissioner.
'In a bid to ensure 100% vaccination, 34 centres will be established in prominent places of the city like Railway stations, bus stations, airports and commercials joints. Other places for vaccination would be Anganwadi centres, Corporation schools, Medical shops , Government hospitals, Primary and Rural health centres. The polio drops drive will commence at 7 am in the morning and will continue upto 5 pm.
20 mobile vans will tour the city with qualified staff to administer polio drops to children who are unable to present themselves at the polio drop centres' Corporation Commissioner said.
He also added that parents are advised to make use of this opportunity to provide polio drops to their children below 5 years of age and help in complete eradication of this disease from our nation'.
