Women Protest with Road Blockade in Coimbatore's 28th Ward Over Lack of Drinking Water

In Coimbatore's 28th Ward, women conducted a road blockade protest on March 21 due to a 20-day drinking water shortage in Avarampalayam and surrounding areas, demanding immediate action.

Coimbatore: A significant protest erupted in Coimbatore's 28th Ward late last night on March 21, as women took to the streets in Avarampalayam and its adjacent areas, blockading the roads in response to an ongoing drinking water crisis. The residents have been facing a severe shortage for the past 20 days, causing widespread distress among the local community.

Despite multiple complaints lodged with Kannagi, the DMK council member of the 28th Ward, the issue remained unresolved, leading to growing frustration among the populace. The locals accused the council member of only visiting the area during the last municipal elections for vote solicitation and have not seen her in the area since.

The sudden night protest caught the attention of local police, who arrived at the scene to negotiate with the protesters. After assuring the crowd that arrangements would be made promptly to distribute drinking water, the protest was peacefully disbanded.

This incident highlights the critical water issues faced by residents in some parts of Coimbatore and the urgent need for effective water management and distribution strategies to prevent such crises in the future.
