Lorry Driver Arrested for Damaging Railway Gate in Coimbatore

A lorry driver was arrested for damaging a railway gate near Singanallur, Coimbatore, and fleeing the scene, following a week-long search by the RPF.


Coimbatore: In a recent enforcement action, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Coimbatore arrested a lorry driver responsible for damaging a railway gate between the Irugur and Peelamedu railway stations, near Singanallur, on March 11, 2024. The incident, which led to the driver fleeing the scene without stopping, prompted an immediate response from the local RPF team.

Following the incident, a case was registered by the Coimbatore RPF under the supervision of Saurav Kumar, Commissioner of the Salem Division, and Ratheesh Babu, Assistant Commissioner, RPF, Coimbatore. Greesh, Inspector, RPF, Coimbatore, alongside Assistant Inspector Palaiya and Constable Raja of the RPF, Coimbatore, were appointed to lead the search operation for the culprit over the past week.

The investigative team analyzed CCTV footage from the accident site and conducted inquiries with eyewitnesses, which eventually led to identifying the vehicle involved in the incident. On March 18, 2024, Vishnuvardhan, a 22-year-old lorry driver from Valapady, Salem, was arrested, and the vehicle was seized.

The driver was presented before the Coimbatore Criminal Court and has been remanded to 15 days of judicial custody in Coimbatore Central Jail. This arrest highlights the vigilance of the Railway Protection Force and their dedication to maintaining safety and order in railway operations. The swift action taken to address this violation underscores the commitment of the RPF to enforce law and order and ensure the uninterrupted functioning of railway services in the region.
