An hour ago, the Thondamuthur Main Road was lined up with colorful empty water pots, as around 500 women of the Thondamuthur Constituency staged a sit-in-protest with empty water pots in their hand to highlight the plight of acute water crisis in their area.
'Despite several pleas to the concerned officials to straighten out the irregular water supply in our area, no action has been initiated' said the infuriated residents.
The women sat on the middle of the Thondamuthur Main Road and blocked the government buses leaving the traffic to a standstill for an hour.
'Dispersing water every 25 days has made our daily living very tough. It is the responsibility of the Government to take care of the needs of the citizens. Unless, the officials assure in person to rectify the issue, we would continue our protest' shouted the women banging their empty pots.
The Thondamuthur constituency belongs to SP Velumani, Minister for Rural Development. The officials and police personnel pacified the women protestors and assured them to rectify the issue on priority, following which they cleared the protests.
