An indefinite strike has been called for by the Coimbatore lorry association starting from 30th March, 2017. It is reported that in the city of Coimbatore, close to 4000 lorries will not operate from 30th March, leaving the economy suffer Rs. 150 crore loss per day.
Increase in VAT for petroleum products (Petrol by Rs. 3.78 and Diesel by Rs.1.70) hike in third party insurance, demanding closure of toll stations whose lease period is over among other demands is deemed to be the reason for this indefinite strike call for.
However, the lorry association has assured that essential services like medicines, milk and water services will remain uninterrupted.
'Unless, the state and central governments relent to our pleas, the strike would go on' said the members of the association.
They have also called other trade bodies and associations to join extend their support for the protests.
