Special Branch Constable Subin attached to Palladam Police Station, has been arrested in connection to the attempted murder of Palladam journalist Nesaprabhu, who was assaulted by men with sickles in Tiruppur. This follows Nesaprabhu's reports on extortion practices by Subin involving a local restaurant owner.
Coimbatore: In a startling development, Special Branch Constable Subin was remanded last night at 1 am by a special task force for his role in the attempted murder of Palladam journalist Nesaprabhu. The incident has shocked the community and raised serious concerns about the safety of journalists and the actions of law enforcement.
On January 25, 2024, Nesaprabhu, a dedicated reporter for News7 TV, became the target of a brutal attack in Tiruppur. Unidentified assailants, wielding sickles, ambushed him. Severely injured in the assault, he was swiftly taken to a hospital in Coimbatore where he received emergency treatment for his wounds.
The attack occurred shortly after Nesaprabhu had reported to the local police that he was being followed by unknown individuals. Despite alerting the authorities about this alarming situation, it appears no substantial measures were taken to ensure his safety.
Adding to the gravity of the situation is an audio recording, released just minutes before the attack, in which Nesaprabhu is heard desperately seeking police assistance, fearing an imminent threat to his life. The response from the police, promising to escalate the matter to their inspector, proved to be too little too late. Moments later, Nesaprabhu was surrounded by five cars and subjected to a vicious assault with over 30 cuts to his body and was lying in a pool of blood.
Police formed ten special teams and arrested 11 suspects. Subin Prabhu, Special Branch (SB) police constable attached to Palladam Police Station, was added as one of the suspects in the case.
Kamanaickenpalayam Police booked him under IPC 307, 147, 148 on March 1, 2024. Subin was suspended on January 22 after he allegedly threatened a hotel owner. He had gone into hiding after the murder attempt using contract killers.
Opining on the arrest, Nesaprabhu said, "At last police have arrested the mastermind. This will be good answer to the paid trolls of political parties on YouTube and Twitter who had ran with fake news to defame me and my work."
