The Jamaats of Coimbatore have unanimously decided to install rain water harvesting system in all Jamaats to conserve the water used for 'Wudu'. 'Wudu' is a ritual process done at the mosque, before commencement of the formal prayer session. Duri8ng 'Wudu', face, hands, nostrils and legs will be thoroughly washed with water, as a matter of respect to the holy book Quran.

Speaking on this initiative, Abdul Hakkim, Spokesperson of Jamaat-e-Islamic Hind said, 'The entire city of Coimbatore is facing sever water crisis. Gallons of water has been sucked from the ground which has led to depletion of ground water. Adding to this, the monsoon rains have also failed us big time.

For carrying out 'Wudu' close to 10,000 litres of water is being used in a single Jamaat. And, with Coimbatore having more than hundred Jamaats, hence around 10 lakh litres of water is required every day for carrying out 'Wudu'.

All these days, the water used for Wudu was left into drainage, hence we have decided to save the water by installing Rain Water Harvesting Systems in all Jamaats and save the Wudu water. By this way, the ground water level could be increased and also the holy water will not go waste into drainage.

Presently, the Rain Water Harvesting System work is being carried out in the Jamaats in Karumbukadai, Town hall and RS Puram area. Soon, the rest of the Jamaats will also implement this much-needed system' Abdul Hakkim said.
