Coimbatore Police participated in a procession to honor Koniamman, regarded as the guardian deity, during the annual chariot festival at the Koniamman Temple, attracting lakhs from various districts.

Coimbatore: The Koniamman Temple's annual chariot festival, celebrated on February 28, marks a significant event in Coimbatore, drawing lakhs of devotees not only from the city but also from various districts. The festival, renowned for its grandeur, sees the gathering of people to witness the majestic procession of the deity's chariot through the streets.

Volunteers at various locations offer food, buttermilk, and cold drinks to the attendees, contributing to the festive spirit.

The procession, which begins at the chariot stand in the temple premises, winds its way through Oppanakara Street and concludes back at the stand, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region.

As part of a longstanding tradition, Coimbatore police, led by Inspector Sasikala from the Kadai Street Police Station, took out processional offerings to Koniamman this year. Prior to the procession, temple administrators visited the police station to tie a turban around the inspector as a mark of respect. Following this, with drums and music setting the rhythm, police officers carried fruits, sarees, and garlands in a procession, demonstrating their reverence towards Koniamman, Coimbatore's beloved guardian deity.
