In a crackdown on corruption, a Village Administrative Officer (VAO) in Moolanur near Dharapuram, Tirupur district, was arrested for demanding a bribe of INR 5,000 for a land document transfer.
Coimbatore, February 24 - A significant anti-corruption operation unfolded in Moolanur, near Dharapuram in Tirupur district, leading to the arrest of a Village Administrative Officer (VAO) involved in a bribery case. The VAO, Shanmugam (40), was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of INR 5,000 for facilitating a land document transfer.
The incident came to light when Sekaran (45), a resident of Moolanur, applied online for a land document transfer on February 9. He was later summoned by Shanmugam for an inquiry related to the application. During this meeting, Shanmugam demanded a bribe of INR 5,000 to complete the transfer process.
Unwilling to comply with the corrupt demand, Sekaran approached the Tirupur Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and filed a complaint against the VAO. Acting on the complaint, the ACB team, led by Inspector Sasirekha, devised a sting operation. Sekaran was given currency notes treated with a chemical to hand over to Shanmugam as part of the operation.
Upon receiving the marked notes, Shanmugam was immediately apprehended by the ACB officials who had been discreetly monitoring the exchange. The arrest of Shanmugam has underscored the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat corruption and uphold integrity within public services.
The investigation continues as the authorities delve deeper into the case, reinforcing the message that corruption at any level will not be tolerated.
