Man Fined for Dangerously Chasing Elephant with High Beam Lights in Navamalai Forest Area Near Pollachi

In the Navamalai area, part of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve near Pollachi, a man named Mithun was fined one lakh for using a high beam light to dangerously chase an elephant, highlighting the strict regulations in place to prevent human-animal conflicts.


Coimbatore: In a significant enforcement of wildlife protection laws, a man from Kottur, identified as Mithun, faced a hefty fine of one lakh for endangering an elephant in the Navamalai forest area near Pollachi.



The incident, which occurred in a critical part of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, has brought to light the severe restrictions imposed on public travel in areas frequented by elephants to prevent human-animal conflicts. Mithun, driving a white Scorpio with high beam lights (highlights), chased the elephant, causing it to flee into the forest. The act was recorded and shared on his social media, leading to an investigation based on the video evidence.

The Forest Department, acting under the wildlife protection law, imposed the fine on Mithun, sending a clear message about the seriousness of such reckless behavior towards wildlife.
