Coimbatore: A heart-wrenching accident occurred near Periyanayakanpalayam, close to the gas company area, claiming the lives of a municipality worker and his child.

The incident took place in the evening around 5 PM when Ashok Kumar, a 32-year-old employee of the Koodalur Municipality Water Department, along with his wife, Susheela, aged 30, and their 3-year-old child, Sarvanth, were riding on a two-wheeler heading towards Periyanayakanpalayam from their home near the gas company. A private bus traveling from Pollachi to Mettupalayam collided with their vehicle in front of the Vidyalaya Centre for the Differently Abled.

Ashok Kumar and his child died tragically at the scene. Following the accident, the bus driver and conductor fled the scene, leaving Susheela battling for her life. She was subsequently rescued by the public and rushed to a private hospital for treatment.

Angered by the incident, locals staged a road blockade, disrupting traffic on the Coimbatore-Mettupalayam road.

DSP Namachivayam of Periyanayakanpalayam arrived at the scene to negotiate with the protesters, assuring them that appropriate action would be taken against those responsible for the accident. The blockade was lifted after two hours, following the assurance, and normal traffic resumed.
