Students from Pollachi, Medhini and Adhav, clinch gold, and Nithin secures silver in the national-level Silambam competition held in Haryana, celebrated by parents and relatives with garlands and sweets upon their return.

Coimbatore: In a commendable achievement at the national-level Silambam competition held in Haryana from January 31 to February 2, Pollachi's young talents, Medhini, a ninth-grade student, and Adhav, a third-grade student, secured gold medals, while Nithin, another third-grade student, won a silver medal. Representing Tamil Nadu, they were part of a contingent of 300 participants in various categories, including individual talent and combat.

Upon their return to Pollachi on February 7, the triumphant students were warmly welcomed and celebrated by their parents, relatives, and well-wishers. They were honored with garlands and shawls, and sweets were distributed as a token of appreciation for their outstanding performance.

Their success is attributed to their dedication to Silambam, a traditional martial art form, which has been included in the Khelo India sports competition, offering a wider platform for participants. According to their coach, Sooriya Narayanan, the inclusion of Silambam in Khelo India has motivated students to aim for medals with determination and hard work.
