Coimbatore: A disturbing incident of sexual harassment has led to the arrest of a 24-year-old man in Coimbatore. The victim, a 19-year-old college student from Mettur in Salem district, is currently studying in her second year of B.Sc at a Coimbatore agricultural college. The student, who had recently gotten married, was returning to her college hostel after a weekend at home.

On January 28, as she waited for a bus at the Gandhipuram bus station, the young man, identified as Ruban, a tailor from Erode district's Thoppampalayam, approached and sexually harassed her. Shocked and distressed, the student raised an alarm, attracting the attention of nearby people who swiftly intervened. They detained the perpetrator and handed him over to the Kattoor police.

Upon investigation, it was confirmed that Ruban was responsible for the harassment. He has since been charged under the Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment Act and taken into custody.
