During the wee hours of morning, a land slide occurred on the Coonoor- Mettupalayam Road near Kurumpadi Village. Thought there was no slide, this landslide halted the traffic for nearly three hours. Vehicles to and from Ooty and Coonoor came to a standstill due to this unexpected land slide.

Divisional Revenue Officer, Geetha Priya, Revenue Inspector,Vasanth along with forest and fire department cleared the landslide with the help of JCB's. Timely intervention by the officials helped the traffic clear before the busy hours could start.

'Last week, Ooty and Coonoor had decent rainfall for at least a couple of days. Following the rainfall, the soaring heat could have loosened the soil causing this unforeseen landslide. Fortunately, no casualties or damage to vehicles has been reported' said the sources.
