Series of Thefts at Four Temples in Kangayam and Uthiyur Regions Cause Alarm

Gold ornaments stolen from four temples in the Kangayam and Uthiyur areas of Tirupur district, creating a stir among local residents.

Coimbatore: In a shocking series of thefts, four temples in the Kangayam and Uthiyur regions of Tirupur district were targeted. The Mahamariamman Temple and Maakaliamman Temple in Kothanoor, and the Mariamman Temple in Valasu Palayam area, were all broken into, and gold ornaments including mangalyams and pottus, worth approximately Rs. 30,000, were stolen.

The incidents occurred in the early hours of the morning, when the temples were closed after the daily rituals. The priests of these temples, Chidambaram and Loganathan, discovered the thefts upon arriving for morning prayers. The front door locks of the two temples in Kothanoor and the one in the Valasu area were found broken. Unidentified individuals had entered the temples and stolen the gold ornaments.

Following the discovery, the local residents were informed, and a thorough examination was conducted.

A complaint was filed at the Uthiyur Police Station, and the police have registered a case and begun investigations.

Additionally, in the Poovanallur region of Kangayam's Veeranampalayam, similar thefts occurred at the Sri Mariamman Temple and the Sri Madurai Veeran Temple. Thieves broke the locks and stole the mangalya pottu and money from the hundis (offering boxes).

These simultaneous thefts at four different locations in the Kangayam region have caused a stir among the local community, raising concerns about temple security and the need for enhanced protective measures.
