Kalyanasundaram from Coimbatore Honored with Atal Gaurav Award for Community Contributions

Former Panchayat Secretary Kalyanasundaram from Coimbatore received the Atal Gaurav Award for his exemplary community service. He was recognized for initiatives in mental health, waste management, and relief efforts, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.


Coimbatore: In a prestigious recognition, Kalyanasundaram, a former Panchayat Secretary from Coimbatore, has been awarded the Atal Gaurav Award by the Atal Foundation. This accolade is in honor of his significant contributions to India's integrated development. The award is given annually by the Atal Foundation to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It celebrates individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the nation's unified growth.



Kalyanasundaram, hailing from Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry regions, was selected for this honor among nominees from two states. The award was presented at the 3rd annual award ceremony held at the Prime Minister's Museum auditorium in Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, New Delhi. Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal presented the award and medal to Kalyanasundaram.

Notable attendees included National Information Commissioner Uday Mahurkar, Central Ministers Rajesh Ojha, Bheemlal Tiwak, Rameshkumar K. Swamy, Mahendra Puji Pura, Atal Foundation President Aparna Singh, and Selection Committee Chair Sugantha Saha, among others. Additionally, 11 international recipients were honored with the Atal International Award, and 35 national awardees received the Atal Gaurav Award.

Kalyanasundaram's exceptional work as a Panchayat Secretary in various municipalities, including Kotur Hill, Annur, Sirumugai, Karamadai, and Koodalur, has been recognized. His achievements include initiatives like mental health parks, waste management centers, free ambulance services before the introduction of the 108 Ambulance service, modern crematoriums, water conservation efforts, tree planting drives, revenue and infrastructure improvements, and providing meals to 1000 people daily during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also made significant contributions to temple renovations.

Following the award ceremony, a felicitation event took place in Thudiyalur, led by Karuppasamy. Aiyappan welcomed the guests, and several dignitaries, including BJP's military wing state secretary Parameswaran, spiritual wing head Gnanamoorthy, former Koodalur Panchayat leader Rajendran, and other prominent figures, attended the event. They offered their congratulations to Kalyanasundaram. Subsequently, Kalyanasundaram released a Tamil calendar by Dinesh, a teacher from Karamadai.
