Namma Ooru Santhai in Coimbatore draws good response

Namma Ooru Santhai held in Veerapandi pirivu of Coimbatore had organic farmers and traders brought together by Iyalvagai, in association with St. John's School, set up shops in the school premises and sold their produce.



Coimbatore: St. John's School, Veerapandi pirivu, Coimbatore, is providing nature-based education to the students. For this purpose, gardens have been created exclusively in the school premises and are being taught on the cultivation and use of natural vegetables, fruits and herbs.

As a part of this, in association with the organisation Iyalvagai, it was planned to organise an event called Namma Ooru Market, which sells only natural food items, on the fourth Sunday of every month. The inaugural function of the event, which was organized accordingly, was presided over by Aravindan, the principal of the school. Bhaskar, principal of the school, welcomed the gathering.



Shanmugam, former president of Odanthurai panchayat, presided over the function and lit the lamp and inaugurated the function. Herbalist and traditional physician Maria Belsin explained about natural food products.



In the market that followed, more than 50 organic agricultural producers produced their produce so that the public who participated in it could buy with interest. They showcased natural products including czech oils, herbal food items including Kolli Malai ginger, mudavattukal tuber, millet rice varieties, sweets, palm leaf toys, neera drinks, tea made from various greens.



It also included a book exhibition on nature, a paraisai slogan of nigar art gallery, a play by Prof. Ramaraj, origami paper art by Thamarai Selvan and traditional games by Marappachi Murugan. In the end, Azhageswari Ashok, the president of the Iyalvagai organization, thanked him. The arrangements for this were done well by the school authorities.
