DMK president and Chief Minister M K Stalin said, "Why has the women's reservation law not been brought in for the last nine years?
Coimbatore: In a statement, BJP national women's wing leader and Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan said,
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government has introduced a landmark bill in Parliament to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies. DMK president and Chief Minister M K Stalin said, "Why has the women's reservation law not been brought in for the last nine years? She asked the question.
"Equality and gender equality without distinction of caste are the hallmarks of civilised society. Gender equality is about empowering women in all respects and everywhere. On behalf of the DMK, I support the Women's Reservation Bill, even if it is done because of time and for an eyewash," Stalin said in a statement.
But if there is gender equality in the DMK, where Stalin is the leader, and in the Tamil Nadu government where he is the Chief Minister, then there is no one with a conscience. Kanimozhi, who was symbolised by politics by Karunanithi, has been sidelined in the DMK because she is a woman. Despite being capable enough to lead the government and the party, he had the post of deputy general secretary out of ten to eleven.
Similarly, even though Chief Minister Stalin has a daughter, he has brought his son into politics and made him the secretary of the DMK's youth wing. Even in dynastic politics against democracy and equality, only those who have excluded women and crowned only male heirs are talking about gender equality today. It's all just talk.
In the 35-member DMK cabinet, including the chief minister, only two are women. Kayalvizhi is ranked 35th in the cabinet list and that too at the bottom of the list. She belongs to the Scheduled Caste. Without giving due representation to women in the cabinet, Leaving the Scheduled Caste woman minister in the last place, Stalin is taking a lesson to others on gender equality without the slightest hesitation.
However, there are 11 women in prime minister Narendra Modi-led BJP cabinet at the Centre. Women are also ministers in key departments like finance. Many women have also been appointed as state governors. Gender equality is the political empowerment of gender-oppressed women. It is social justice that empowers women to do what they need on their own. Instead of doing this, the DMK is denying women the right to power while talking about gender equality and social justice.
The DMK is a party steeped in dynasty and corruption. If you are an heir, there will be patriarchy. Women will be denied the rights. Therefore, by bringing in the Women's Reservation Act, PM Modi has won the hearts of women who occupy an enormous place in the history of India and make up half of the population. Unable to bear this, Chief Minister Stalin, as usual, spewed hatred. If possible, let the DMK give due importance and power to women in the government. "No matter what he does, we can't stop Narendra Modi from becoming the Prime Minister for a third time in 2024.
