Farmers continue to protest on 27th day for demanding compensation for land in Dharapuram

The farmers, who had given land for the construction of the Nallathangal Odai reservoir dam in Dharapuram, continued their hunger strike for the 27th day demanding compensation.

Tirupur: On the 27th day of the protest, a farmer, who blew a conch shell and beat himself up with a whip, took part in the protest in a novel way.

In 1997, public works department officials acquired 750 acres of land from 150 farmers for the construction of nallathangal odai reservoir dam in Ponnivadi village of Dharapuram in Tirupur district and started the construction work in 2000.

The PWD officials informed the farmers that they would pay maximum compensation for the agricultural price lands acquired for the construction of the dam and received the land. But the farmers have not been given proper compensation as told to them. The court had not filed a case in the court seeking this compensation amount and the court had ordered the compensation amount to be paid along with interest as per the court order in 2017.

But the PWD officials have not paid compensation to the farmers even after 24 years. Many of the affected farmers have died without receiving the compensation.

However, the existing 150 farmers have been protesting in Koneripatti area for the last 27 days.

On the 27th day of the protest, the farmers blew a conch shell and beat himself up with a whip and asked samy for a mark and demanded that the Tamil Nadu government pay full compensation to the farmers who had given land for the construction of nallathangal dam.

Samy played with the public works department officials by giving them good sense and making them aware of the plight of the farmers and demanding compensation at least for the existing third-generation descendants of the farmers.

At that time, Samy came up to him, said, "It will be an undying government. You will fight and fight and the farmers will disperse yourselves, don't do it, don't dad. On October 10, all the farmers of Nallathangal Odai dam came together and protested in a novel way by beating up the whip and saying that Samy had asked them to lay siege to the Secretariat in Chennai.

The farmers have announced that they will lay siege to the Chennai Secretariat on October 10.
