The foundries operating at Kurumbapalayam in Coimbatore should be stopped - Public Demand

The residents of Palani Krishna Garden near Kurumbapalayam under Sarkar Samakulam town panchayat have submitted a memorandum to the town panchayat executive officer demanding the removal of the foundries as they are causing health hazards.

Coimbatore: The public has submitted a memorandum demanding the removal of the foundries in palani Krishna Garden area near Kurumbapalayam.

Several foundries are operating on rent on lands classified as residential areas within a distance of 100 metres near Palani Krishna Garden area under 10th ward at Kurumbapalayam under Sarkar Samakulam town panchayat.

A large amount of black smoke and toxic smoke emanate from these foundries causing suffocation, asthma, allergies and a number of lung-related ailments to children and the general public living nearby.

Are these boundaries operating with proper permission? People have doubts about that. Moreover, no pollution control procedures seem to be being followed.

For many years, petitions have been filed with the Pollution Control Board and the Chief Minister's Special Cell, but no action has been taken. Moreover, the foundries continue to emit smoke even after officials, including the town panchayat executive officer, came and warned them.

Moreover, dark particles are deposited in houses and trees. Therefore, in this regime which gives priority to the welfare of the people, the people of Kurumbapalayam area should be freed from the plight of inhaling toxic smoke and sand particles and take steps to breathe clean air.

Accordingly, on August 31, the residents of the area submitted a memorandum to the Executive Officer of Sarkar Samakulam Town Panchayat to enable the permanent removal of all the foundries which were operating in violation of the rules in the vicinity of the residential area.

In the petition, the residents of the village have said that they will gherao the town panchayat and stage a protest if the boundaries which are operating without proper permission are not given a break and the boundaries which are operating without proper permission are not given a break.
