Damage to Sengathurai check dam due to floods - BJP files petition seeking restoration

BJP, led by Sulur East zone president Ravikumar, submitted a petition at the district collector's office, demanding the repair of the Sengathurai check dam, which was damaged in the 2017 heavy rains in Sulur area of Coimbatore district.


Coimbatore: The BJP has complained that despite submitting directly petitions to various government officials, including tahsildar, district collector, PWD, town panchayat office and former minister, the check dam damaged due to rains has not been repaired so far.

The BJP, led by Sulur East zone president Ravikumar, submitted a petition at the district collector's office, demanding the repair of the Sengathurai check dam, which was damaged in the 2017 heavy rains in Sulur area of Coimbatore district.

In their petition, they said, Around 1,800 acres of agricultural land around the area has been affected due to the damage to the check dam.

Despite directly submitting representations to various government officials, including tahsildar, district collector, pwd, town panchayat office, former minister, no action has been taken so far. We request the District Collector to take immediate action and restore the check dam.

In the petition, the BJP has also sought permission for the farmers to repair the dam if it is not known which department the work belongs to.
