Watchman trampled to death by elephant

A 41 year old private estate worker was trampled to death by an elephant at Soondi near Gudalur, about 80 km from Coimbatore today.

Radhakrishnan, after night shift as watchman in Briarwood Estate, was returning home around 8 AM when an elephant suddenly appeared in front of him and trampled him to death, police said.

Hearing the trumpeting sound and screams of Radhakrishnan, a few workers and a group from Striking Force, who were on rounds to prevent man-human conflict, arrived the scene.

However, the elephant left the spot after killing the watchman, they said.

The body has been taken to Gudalur Government Hospital for post mortem.
