Sanitation worker electrocuted to death in temple premises

In a tragic incident, a sanitation worker, who was announcing on a loudspeaker announcing that he would be offering Annadhaanam at the Aadi festival of Arulmigu Muthu Mariamman Temple, was electrocuted to death in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: The police have registered a case and are investigating the death of a youth who died due to electrocution during the Aadi monthly festival.



The Aadi festival of Arulmigu Muthu Mariamman Temple, located in the CMC Colony area of Ukkadam in Coimbatore, has been going on for the past one week.



Mahendran, a youth who lives in the same locality, was informing about the annadhanam through a loudspeaker when the annadhanam ceremony was scheduled to be held this afternoon as part of the festival.

Mahendran fell unconscious after being thrown into the temple premises due to excessive power supply in the loudspeaker due to an unexpected power leak.

The locals immediately rushed him to coimbatore government hospital for treatment.



The doctors who examined him later declared Mahendran dead on the way. The body has been kept in the mortuary of the Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem.

Ukkadam police station police rushed to the spot and registered a case and are investigating the matter. According to the investigation, mahendran, who died, was working as a contract cleaner in coimbatore corporation and he cooked for today's annadhanam in a situation where he is survived by his wife and two children.

The death of a youth in the temple premises, who was in the forefront of all the work, has caused a lot of grief in the area.
